To the YNFL Volunteers
Tomorrow is opening day for YNFL Flag. Thank you for volunteering to be a part of our program. I’m excited for the kids, the fun they will have playing the game, and exceedingly excited for the journey we have begun towards Character Based Coaching. As I mentioned at our Volunteers Meeting, our hope is to offer multiple channels in hopes of increasing impact and seeing transformation in the lives of kids and families.
- Mike Bender is leading the Impact Club which will meet once a month for an hour. We will reflect on chapter(s) from the book "The Greatest Coach Ever. Timeless Wisdom and Insight from John Wooden” (pick up your copy at the red tent if you were not at the meeting) I hope many will join us
- I have opened a forum on the TeamX Facebook page entitled “Character Based Coaching". Its a space to share your ideas, testimonies and interact with other contributors who are seeking to impact lives. Please consider participating.
- Remember, if the option is there, please identify a mentor this season and help someone move into a head coaching role in the future. The more quality men and women engaged, the greater our impact will be. I’ve already witnessed this happening with some! Thank you!
- Our character theme this year is Respect. Perhaps you could think about that and impart your gems of wisdom and knowledge to the kids in a three minute huddle prior to their games: What does it mean for the kids to:
- Respect you as their coach?
- Respect their teammates?
- Respect the game?
- Respect their opponents?
- Respect the referees?
And how can they practically apply this character trait during the game? Also, show the kids how applying respect will actually make them a better team
As the season progresses you might ask the kids to transfer that character quality by asking them how they can improve their respect of their parents, siblings etc.
There is great wisdom in this group of volunteers. Im not the guru, just the facilitator trying to encourage intentionality. Please jump into the forum on the TeamX Facebook page where we can all learn and be inspired by one another.
